Ensemble Effusions
Ensemble Effusions is composed of four young women living in Hamburg, all of whom are committed to the promotion and performance of New Music: Marion Fermé (recorder and voice), Marcia Lemke-Kern (voice and composition), Jennifer Hymer (piano, toy piano and gadgets) and Ewelina Nowicka formed Ensemble Effusions in order to present the big names of the modern music scene such as Cage, Berio, Webern and Ives as well as avant-garde composers from Hamburg e.g. Georg Hajdu and Sascha Lemke, Pèter Köszeghy to a wider audience. For those interested in discovering international contemporary music with voice, recorder, piano, toy piano and electronic music.

Jennifer Hymer received degrees of music at UC Berkeley and Mills College. Interested in different and unusual sonic possibilities of the piano, she specializes in repertoire for piano and multi-media as well as extended techniques.
Moving to Germany in 1995, she consequently co-founded the electro-acoustic ensemble WireWorks; an ensemble for acoustic instruments, voice and electronics, with composer Georg Hajdu.
She had performances in Europe, latin America, the USA and Israel. Her musical projects include the multi-media piano program “Handscapes” by a cast of internationally renowned women composers and her “Piano, Kalimba, Gadgets, Toy Piano” project, as well as Stockhausen’s “Mantra” for two pianos and electronics.
She recorded a solo CD with the German label Ambitus under the title “Ceci n’est pas un piano”.

Marcia Lemke-Kern (*1977) studied performance and composition in London at City University and Guildhall School of Music and Drama, she went on to do postgraduate study at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, and the Fortbildungszentrum für Neue Musik Lüneburg, and took courses at the Centre de la Musique Medieval Paris.
Apart from her work as one half of duo con:fusion, Marcia performs as a singer of ancient and contemporary music. Her voice has been recorded by composers and video artists such as Georg Hajdu, Sean Reed, Sonja Schierbaum and Sun-Young Pagh.
Marcia Lemke-Kern composes for soloists and ensembles with and without the use of live-electronics, and for electro acoustic tape. Her pieces are performed in Europe, USA, Caribbean and in China.
