 •A Masque upon a Tempest
• Nicola Matteis, an Italian in London
Programme with singer
Ayres for the violin, the flute and love songs

A century after the creation of the play The Tempest by William Shakespeare, the composer Matthew Locke wrote a musical suite of the same name, as a musical entertainment to be performed between the scenes of the play.

The ensemble « The Theater of Music », takes its name from the title of the book published by John Playford, and presents a programme faithful to the unfolding of the English musical form called a Masque.

From its inception in 2006, music director and recorder player Marion Fermé has been focusing this project on research and interpretation of the rich repertoire of the English Baroque music, especially on the transitional period of the mid 17th century.

Starting with a trio setting during concerts in Germany, Belgium, Austria (recorders, lute, theorbe, baroque guitar), the project evolved into a CD recording, adding a soprano singer and a harpsichord, during a residency in France in 2009. After Marion Fermé moved from Germany to France in 2012, the ensemble broadened its repertoire by including a harp, a viola da gamba and a baroque violin.

Passed concerts :

Germany (Flötenhof, Mozartiade, Bad Arolser Festival), Belgique (Midis-Minimes), Autria, (Salzkammergut Festival), in France: (Festival Songes d’été d’Annot), Abbaye de Valcroissant, Rencontres internationales de musique du Roubion, Phono Museum à Paris, Eglise de Comps historique, Abbaye de Leoncel, Domaine de La Chaux, Bourgogne, Festival Marin Marais in Paris.
